The State Basketball Championship Executive Committee understands the excitement surrounding tournament play and the passion with which players will play, the coaches will coach, and the fans will cheer.  We are committed to bringing you an unforgettable experience from the best competition to terrific venues, but we need something from you.

Conduct expectations for players, coaches, officials and spectators on the courts and in the stands are of the utmost importance.  The State Basketball Championship expects all attendees to display good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.  Negative comments toward all officials, including score keepers and clock operators, will not be tolerated, either during the game or after.  Referees have the right to eject even after the end of the contest.  All concerns regarding any game officials should only be directed by the coach to onsite tournament management.

State Basketball Championship reserves the right to remove a player, coach or spectator from any tournament facility. The Tournament Director, Executive Committee and its personnel (including game officials and court supervisors) who observe poor sportsmanship or bad behavior, including, but not limited to: cursing, threatening language, physical intimidation or taunting may result in ejection.  If ejected, the offender will be asked to leave the premises and may not be permitted back for the remainder of the tournament.  No refunds will be given.  If severe behavior is encountered, including, but not limited to violent acts (fighting, throwing a punch), the person will be immediately removed from the State Basketball Championship without refund.  The Code of Conduct and potential tournament bans extend to behavior at local partner hotels where tournament bans may be assessed to offending players, parents, teams and/or programs.

The State Basketball Executive Committee and Tournament Director will review each incident on a case-by-case basis. At the discretion of the Executive Committee, the offending person(s) may lead to the entire team being disqualified from further participation.

The State Basketball Championship is committed to fair competition.  Each player on a roster must supply eligibility information to be verified by the State Eligibility Committee.  If a player or team is found to alter eligibility information, add players who do not meet eligibility requirements or have not submitted such documents for review may result in a disqualification of that team and potentially any affiliated teams.  We hold a zero tolerance policy for ineligible participants.

Our commitment to putting on a great and fair tournament is second only to the safety of our players, coaches, officials and spectators.  We’re asking you to be accountable for your actions and to enjoy what’s sure to be an exciting weekend of basketball.

TOURNAMENT SAFETY POLICY

Having fun and providing a safe environment for student athletes to compete for a State Basketball Championship is the objective of this event. Safety must be a priority. This policy gives guidelines to coaches, parents and players to help provide a safe playing environment for all participants.

Player Injuries:

Treatment of all player injuries is the responsibility of the coaches and parents of each team.  All teams are responsible for providing their own first aid kits, including but not limited to, ice packs, ankle wrap and band aids.  Due to the number of courts and locations, State Basketball Championship may not have an athletic trainer at each facility. At the sole discretion of State Basketball Championship, there may be a trainer at a facility and in this instance the trainer is to be used by players or teams for minor issues.  It is expected that all major injuries should be handled by the team, coach or parent.

Similarly, treatment of all serious injuries is the responsibility of coaches and parents of each team, including the potential for calling 911.  As such, it is recommended that a coach, assistant coach or parent have a mobile phone at every game.  All serious incidents will be recorded and documented by our Court Supervisors. Ultimately, for all injuries, it is the responsibility of the coaches and parents to deem whether a player is fit to return to competition or not.

Concussion Protocol:

The safety of all participants of the State Basketball Championship is paramount. Due to the nature of the event, State Basketball Championship makes best efforts to monitor each game and potential injury. Ultimately, it is the parent, coach and team’s responsibility to determine the ability of a player to compete after any sort of head trauma or injury. State Basketball Championship expects that coaches and adult members of the team have undergone training and state specific certification for concussions and head injuries.
