Peace of Mind Refund Policy

Effective September 14, 2021

The Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of more than a dozen State Basketball Championships ("SBC") in March of 2020 and March of 2021.  As a result, we have re-evaluated our refund policies.   To provide the highest quality tournaments possible, SBC incurs many unrecoverable expenses prior to each event, such as staffing to review player eligibility documents, State Reps to attend Qualifier Tournaments, player medical insurance, and in some cases, prepaid venue costs.  As such, SBC now offers what it believes to be a fair refund policy to protect itself and the thousands of competing teams.

GENERAL REFUND POLICY

Cancellation by your team.  If your team is registered for an SBC event, and wishes to cancel, for any reason, we will issue you a full credit worth all registration fees paid.  However, your team's notice of cancellation must be given on or before the Team Cancellation deadlines listed below.  Credits may be applied towards any scheduled State Basketball Championship event before December 31, 2024. The credit may also be transferred to another team.

Cancellation of your team's 2024 tournament by State Basketball Championship due to tournament facilities being closed or due to government mandate (i.e. Covid-19).  Your team will receive a full credit worth all registration fees paid. This credit may be applied towards any State Basketball Championship event before December 31, 2024.  The credit may also be transferred to another team.

Full cash refunds will be given only with the purchase of Cancellation Protection (see terms below).

PEACE OF MIND POLICY

Team Cancellation Protection - optional

Cancellation Protection can be purchased for $40 per team, but only during your initial registration.  This translates to roughly $4 per player and is the only way to receive a full refund.  The protection applies to all cancellation situations, whether by your team or by SBC by due to tournament facilities being closed or due to government mandate (i.e. Covid-19).

If your team wishes to cancel it's registration for a full refund, it must do so prior to the Cancellation Protection Deadline (listed below).  All refunds will be processed in the same method as the original registration payment in the amount paid for the 2023-24 season (excludes any credit amount used from a prior season) and exclude the $40 Cancellation Protection Fee.

For teams that cancel after its Team Cancellation Deadline, no refunds will be offered.  Teams may not purchase cancellation protection after you have registered for a State Basketball Championship event.

FAQ's

WHY SHOULD OUR TEAM PURCHASE INSURANCE WHEN WE CAN JUST WAIT TO PAY OUR REGISTRATION FEE AT THE ENTRY DEADLINE?
All teams* have the opportunity to receive $75 off the regular registration fee if they sign up and pay shortly after qualifying, rather than waiting until the entry fee deadline.  This savings more than covers the cost of the Cancellation Protection.  See the "Register Team" page for your state tournament for details on how to save $75.

WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR TOURNAMENT IS CANCELLED FOR REASONS OTHER THAN GOVERNMENT MANDATE (i.e. Covid-19)?
Each season, SBC purchases tournament cancellation insurance that covers situations such as severe weather.  In fact, the 2019 Oregon Girls Championship weekend was cancelled due to a rare 100-year blizzard.  SBC's insurance policy provided full refunds for all 125 teams.  Note, that SBC's insurance does not offer communicable disease coverage, i.e. Covid-19.  Thus, we highly recommend purchasing Cancellation Protection.

Lastly, if a tournament or tournament division were to ever be cancelled due to an insufficient number of teams, then full refunds, including any Cancellation Protection payments, would be granted.
