Greetings!
As you may know, State Basketball Championship operates the largest Qualifier-based tournaments in the country with many events in the 200-600+ team range. To receive an invite to STATE, teams must typically finish 1st or 2nd in an officially recognized State Qualifier tournament or league. Many teams do not know, however, there exists another path to compete at STATE called an “At Large” qualification.
Is your team from a rural area, making it difficult to attend one of our official State Qualifiers? Has your team come up just short of qualifying at a few Qualifiers? If so, consider applying to receive an At Large bid to STATE. Simply click on this At Large Application link and answer a few questions to make your case to be considered for an invite to STATE. Our Executive Committee meets once a week to consider all applications.

***Great News for 7th and 8th Grade Teams!***
In years past our Kansas Middle School Basketball Championship dates have conflicted with KSHSAA rules that prohibit 7th and 8th grade teams to continue play after week 35 of the school calendar. This season our tournament falls within the permitted window meaning many 7th and 8th grade school and club teams will be able to experience our State Tournament in Wichita! At Large bids that can qualify your team can be filled out here. See KSHSAA rules below:
24-25 KSHSAA Basketball Manual
“Middle School Non-School Team Exception - In April 2015, the KSHSAA Board of Directors voted to provide an exception for 7th and 8th grade players in regards to non-school team participation outside the season of sport. From October 27, 2024 (SCW #17) through March 2, 2025 (Sunday of SCW #35) there are no restrictions on the number of players that may participate together on a non-school team. While a member of the school team a player may not play or practice with a non-school team. The school coach may not coach their potential players outside the season of sport. The school team may not extend their season be continuing to play as the school team after the school season is complete.”
