Many teams do not know, however, there exists another path to compete at STATE called an “At Large” qualification...

Greetings,

The team at State Basketball Championship is thrilled to announce the newest addition to its series of state tournaments, the 2025 North Dakota Middle School Basketball Championship, to be held March 7-9 in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

The event is for boys and girls teams, in grades 3-8, that must first qualify to be eligible for State. The top travel, community, and school-based squads from North Dakota will battle it out for 12 division crowns. Teams from South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana are also eligible to compete and, if not able to attend an official Qualifier tourney, should complete an At Large Application for entry consideration.

* Please note that AAU teams are not allowed unless they meet our eligibility rules, and Minnesota 7th and 8th grade boys teams competing at their long-standing state tourney on the same weekend are not eligible to compete in Fargo.

About Us: Since 2012, State Basketball Championship has operated the largest qualifier-based youth tournaments in the nation. We connect the dozens of independent youth leagues and tournaments in each state to offer exciting, winter season-ending competitions for young athletes and their families.

Our annual events have taken root from coast to coast across the USA, and in 2025, we will host 17 State Championship events with all in the 100-600+ team range. Game sites for the North Dakota Middle School Championship include six courts under one roof at NCAA D-III Concordia College.

As you may know, State Basketball Championship operates the largest Qualifier-based tournaments in the country with many events in the 200-600+ team range. To receive an invite to STATE, teams must typically finish 1st or 2nd in an officially recognized State Qualifier tournament or league. Many teams do not know, however, there exists another path to compete at STATE called an “At Large” qualification.

Is your team from a rural area, making it difficult to attend one of our official State Qualifiers? Has your team come up just short of qualifying at a few Qualifiers? If so, consider applying to receive an At Large bid to STATE. Simply click on this At Large Application link and answer a few questions to make your case to be considered for an invite to STATES. Our Executive Committee meets once a week to consider all applications.
