The Iowa Middle School Basketball Championship is a qualifier-based tournament with two divisions (one for Travel, Community, School) teams and one for Club teams.
Formerly known as the "Heartland States Basketball Championship", this event has moved to Iowa City and features the top squads from all corners of Iowa. Teams from Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota are also eligible to compete in Iowa City and should complete an At Large Application to qualify for entry.
Game sites include the 8-court Field House in the heart of the University of Iowa campus.
Teams earn their spot at State by placing 1st or 2nd in an Official Qualifier Tournament or League. Thank you for supporting one of these quality annual events... and be sure to say "Hello" to our State Reps attending the Qualifier Championship games!

All team rosters are verified by the State Eligibility Committee prior to tournament play. Last season, we reviewed over 21,000 Proof of Eligibility documents!
GRANDFATHER EXCEPTION: Any player who participated in a prior State tournament is automatically approved for 2025 play and does not need to re-submit Proof of Eligibility (POE) documents. However, ALL players, returning or not, are required to have a new Parent/Guardian Waiver submitted for 2025.
State Reps serve as local connections between Qualifier Tournaments and States. You'll spot our orange-clad Reps at Qualifier Events throughout the season, awarding top teams with their Gold Ticket invitation to States and answering questions from parents and coaches.
